Gemini 4 Not Showing Up? The 3 Access Gates Explained (App, API, Antigravity)

“Globally available” — behind three gates

Google calls Gemini 4 Argon “globally available”, but it has published no country list at the time of writing — and availability is not a single switch. Argon sits behind three separate access gates, and which gate applies depends on where you are trying to use it. If Argon is not showing up for you, work through the checklist on this page: the reported cases come down to the gates, an entitlement that has not applied, or an uneven rollout.

The 3 access gates

  1. Gemini app / AI Mode — Argon here needs a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription.
  2. API / AI Studio — not included with Pro. This gate needs Ultra, or a paid API key.
  3. Antigravity — Ultra-only. A Pro subscription does not open this gate at all.

Checklist

1. Check your plan tier

Are you on Google AI Pro, or on Ultra? Pro opens the first gate — the Gemini app and AI Mode — only. The API and AI Studio are not included with Pro, and Antigravity is Ultra-only. If you are on Pro and looking for Argon in the API or in Antigravity, the gates explain what you are seeing.

2. Check which surface you are on

The Gemini app, the API / AI Studio and Antigravity are three different surfaces with three different gates, and having Argon on one surface does not carry the entitlement to another. Reported example: an Ultra Workspace subscriber has Argon in the Gemini app, but greyed out in Antigravity — an entitlements issue on that surface.

3. Allow for an uneven rollout

Even where you pass the first two checks, the rollout has been uneven. Reported cases:

  • Pro users in Austria report Argon unavailable in Antigravity — which is what the third gate predicts, since Antigravity is Ultra-only.
  • A Jio-bundled AI Pro user in India reports Argon still unavailable.
  • Android Police’s own Pro-subscriber writer could not see Argon on day one.

So “globally available” does not mean visible to everyone at once — and with no published country list, there is no official list to check your country against.

What each case means

  • Pro, no Argon in the app: your plan passes the app gate, so this matches the uneven-rollout reports — the Android Police writer’s day-one case, and the Jio-bundled Pro user in India.
  • Pro, no Argon in the API or AI Studio: expected. Pro does not include API or AI Studio access; that gate needs Ultra or a paid API key.
  • Pro, no Argon in Antigravity: expected. Antigravity is Ultra-only — the Austria reports are this gate working as described.
  • Ultra, Argon in the app but greyed out in Antigravity: an entitlements issue, as in the reported Ultra Workspace case — the plan passes the gate, but the entitlement has not applied on that surface.
